San Pedro Waterfront

San Pedro Waterfront is an amazing regional asset in LA County, with tourist and local attractions, like the Battleship Iowa, AltaSea, and new destination development underway.  HERE worked with an interdisciplinary team to define design improvements to make it easier for the local community to walk and bike to the Waterfront, with a focus on the 1st/Harbor intersection. A linear skate park and bike obstacle course area was designed to create more of a "destination" along the busy and wide harbor boulevard, tucked back away from the roadway.  Corner bulb-outs are added, along with new artful crosswalks, and a shaded walk/bike path with wayfinding. Our team also designed and carried out an interactive game at a local art walk with magnetic game pieces, mini-humans and a large-scale map game board, so we can see where people want to be able to walk to and from, at the Waterfront.
