Long Beach Uptown Plan

HERE oversaw the creative outreach for the Uptown Planning, Land Use, and Neighborhood Strategy (UPLAN). The multi-faceted outreach included meetings with the project’s Advisory Committee, a series of creative pop-ups with interactive community activities, and a tactical urbanism installation toward the end of the project. The first of the pop-ups included a branded, custom-designed card game (pictured, above), which simplified complex planning topics relating to re-zoning, so that the dialogue about the zoning code update would be approachable by all stakeholders. In addition, the HERE team created a brand identity and web content for the Neighborhood Strategy.

The tactical installation included rehabilitated storefronts with large scale art panels that housed a community photo project, temporary street furniture, street trees, and sidewalk art. A local school and community volunteers helped bring the installation to life.
