What We’ve Been Up To
It’s been a while since we’ve posted =) That’s because we’ve been hard at work helping the region design better public spaces and nicer streets! In particular we’ve been preparing for the 2028 Olympic Games, designing dozens of mobility hubs and street improvements to help people walk, bike, and roll to Games venues throughout the region.
As part of our Games-related work, HERE is designing custom wayfinding signs to point visitors in the right direction, play furniture where people can sit and meet up, and playful things to do along the way. We’re also working with project partners and cities to figure out how these pieces fit on real streets, where people live, work, and need to get around every day. Here is helping design and deploy a temporary “kit-of-parts” of streetscape elements on seven additional Games access corridors with more on the way. And there’s plenty to get ready for: LA will host the Olympic Games for the third time, following 1932 and 1984, and the Paralympics for the very first time! The Coliseum will become the first venue ever to host events at three Olympic Games. The goal is to use existing and temporary venues without building new permanent competition venues, a first for the Games in 80 years. That puts a lot of the action in places we already know and love, and makes the streets between them a big part of the experience. We’re excited to help make those trips easier, more welcoming, and a little more fun.
In addition to our 2028 Games-related work, here’s a sampling of what HERE’s been up to. Among other things, we are currently…
Designing access and connectivity for a new park at the LADWP Headworks Facility.
Preparing loading studies, laying out roads, buildings, and green spaces for a public client.
Designing pilot projects, placemaking, and arts-based engagement in Sonoma, CA.
Helping to redesign corridors throughout several cities in Southern California as part of the “Highways-to-Boulevards” and “Main Streets” regional efforts.
Designing and placing a custom wayfinding sign family along Huntington Blvd in Los Angeles.
Finalizing ideas for a creative artful crosswalk in Montebello, CA.
Helping lead local agencies through Strategic Planning efforts.
Analyzing the impact of Metro’s equity-related programs and tools.
