Space 134 Cap Park

Client: City of Glendale

Location: Glendale, CA

HERE is working currently on strategic planning for Space 134, a 25+ acre park over the 134 Freeway through the heart of Downtown Glendale. Re-stitching the city that was torn apart by the freeway, Space 134 is envisioned as both a regional destination and a locally-serving asset. This project continues the work that HERE Co-Directors led while at a previous firm, Melendrez, to conceptual design the park. The project was designed to include a ‘green loop’ connecting to an enhanced Verdugo Wash adjacent to the freeway. ‘Inspiration stations’ positioned along the green loop, play upon the City’s rich tech, animation, and creative sectors.

Community engagement for the project included a ‘pop-up’ park, complete with a soundtrack where passers-by could block out the freeway with pleasant park sounds. A mobile mural truck asked community members to envision and paint their ideal park. Images courtesy of Melendrez.
