Climate Talks Box

Client: Southern CA Association of Governments

Location: LA County

  • 2020 California American Planning Association (APA)
    Public Outreach Award

To inform future public outreach around climate adaptation policy, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) commissioned the development of the Climate Talks Box. The Climate Talks Box is an innovative, interactive, ‘room’ that engages the community in a dialogue about climate change and adaptation. The Climate Talks Box popped-up at events in Redondo Beach, Baldwin Park, Pacoima, Glendale and Long Beach during the fall of 2019, and now resides at SCAG headquarters.

The goal of the pop-up was to test four messaging strategies, in order to understand what climate change and adaptation messaging resonates with people living and working throughout the SCAG region. Feedback gathered during the pop-up will help inform the Regional Climate Adaptation Framework, with the data helping to create a set of communication tools for municipalities to connect with their constituencies on climate policy.
